Almeda A. Passet

Almeda Annette (Harrison) Passet, age 90, of TH 87, Wharton, died at 10:45PM on Sat. Mar 5, 2011 at her residence. She was born on April 26, 1920 in Riley County, KS, to the late Roger B. & Hermina (Quantic) Harrison. She married Norman F. Passet at her parents’ home on Sep 2, 1944, and the two celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary a few months before his death in 2009. Almeda was a member of the North Salem Lutheran Church. Almeda is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger & Iris Passet, near Wharton, with whom she made her home for the past five years; a daughter, Joanne, of Richmond, IN, three grandsons, Jason (Julie), Ryan, & Gregory Passet; two step-grandsons, Jeremy (Kim) & Joshua (Amy) Hankins; two great-grandsons, Nikolas & Garret Passet; and five step-great-grandchildren, Addy, Avery & Taylor Hankins and Avery and Christian Davis. Also surviving is a brother, Neal Harrison, of Lynnwood, WA. Almeda grew up on the family farm, was active in 4-H, and studied piano at Kansas State University. After graduating from Riley Rural High School, she worked as a civil servant at Fort Riley, where she met Norman at a U.S.O. square dance. When the war ended, the couple settled on their farm near Wharton, OH. Almeda was a homemaker and assisted her husband in raising sheep and grain. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, baking, needlework, sewing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Almeda helped make many quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She also served as a leader of the Wharton Busy Bees 4-H club and was active in the Country Neighbors Hospital Guild. She will be remembered for her sweet smile and thoughtfulness. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tue. Mar 8, 2011 at the Clark Shields Funeral Home, Forest, OH with Pastor Joe Trester officiating. Burial will follow in the Wharton Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton, OH.
