Diane Lynn Hohn We are heartbroken to share that Diana Lynn (Haddox) Hohn passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2026, at the age of 78. Diane was born on August 27, 1948, to James R. and Barbara Haddox. She grew up in McComb, Ohio, the oldest of five children, surrounded by siblings, neighborhood friends, and the simple joys of small-town life. In 1966, Diane graduated from McComb High School and went on to Findlay College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. While at Findlay, Diane was a cheerleader and met Julius “John” Hohn, a Teaneck, New Jersey, native. They married on June 21, 1969, and Diane successfully convinced her East Coast husband to make Ohio their home. Diane and John made their home in Forest, Ohio, where they raised their three children. Diane chose to stay home with them when they were young. She loved being a mom and found ways to make everyday life special. She made everything from scratch, sewed clothes and costumes, decorated birthday cakes, and crafted treasured family keepsakes. She lovingly tutored and babysat countless children in the community, forming friendships with their families that remained dear to her for years to come. Diane began her teaching career at Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, where she taught English. As a young teacher, Diane looked so close in age to her students that she was occasionally mistaken for one of them. She later moved to Riverdale High School, where she taught English and psychology. All three of her children were students in her classroom at some point. Former students may fondly remember the Egg Baby project, Oprah segments on VHS, journal writing, and vocabulary quizzes. She spent time as the cheerleading advisor, but her Falcon spirit extended far beyond that role. A true Riverdale superfan, she continued attending many sporting events long after her own children had graduated. Once an English teacher, always an English teacher. Good grammar mattered to Diane, and she was quick to correct it and always ready to edit a piece of writing of any kind. Her love of literature extended well beyond the classroom. Diane was an avid reader and loved her frequent visits to the Forest-Jackson Public Library. She would happily talk books with anyone, and her superpower was being able to read as a passenger in the car. Diane’s creativity continued throughout her life. She loved knitting and looked forward to her twice-weekly gatherings with her knitting group, the “Jitterz Knitters.” Over the years, nearly everyone she knew received one of her handmade hats, scarves, or other creations. She loved making things for others and giving them away. Diane was a devoted member of Mt. Blanchard United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Her church was an important part of her life. She taught Sunday school, volunteered for Vacation Bible School, made noodles alongside the church ladies, and cherished the lasting family friendships she formed there. Of all the roles Diane held throughout her life, one of her most cherished was being “Nonni” to her five grandchildren. She was the very definition of a “get-on-the-floor grandma.” She played pretend, board games, and anything else they asked her to, even if that meant getting down on all fours and being a horse. She rarely seemed to say no, whether it was baking cookies, making slime, or any other messy activity. A trip to Nonni and Papa’s always included a visit to the library to feed the guinea pigs and check out a pile of books to read together. As her grandchildren grew, she became a familiar and enthusiastic presence at dance recitals and hockey, soccer, football, and lacrosse games. She wanted to be there for it all and made sure they knew how proud she was of them. Diane is survived by her husband, John; their three children, Laurie (Mark) Huffnagle of Powell, Ohio, Kyle Hohn of Columbus, Ohio, and Lindsey (Kevin) Grey of Powell, Ohio; and her five grandchildren, Megan Huffnagle, Drew Huffnagle, Emily Grey, Luke Huffnagle, and Ryan Grey. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda Parente, Patricia (Greg) Adams, Nancy (Lee) Lilly, and James R. (Carol) Haddox, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and former students. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, James R. and Barbara Haddox; her parents-in-law, Hans and Grace Hohn; and her brother-in-law, Fred Hohn. Diane lived with humility, worked hard, loved deeply, and put others before herself. In the selfless ways she cared for people, she showed those around her what kindness looks like in practice. Her example will live on in the family she raised, the students she taught, and the many lives she touched. Her family loved her beyond measure and will miss her every day. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, September 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Blanchard United Methodist Church, with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest-Jackson Public Library or Mt. Blanchard United Methodist Church, in care of Clark Shields Funeral Home, 301 South Patterson Street, Forest, Ohio 45843.
