Edgar J McCarthy

Edgar J. McCarthy, age 78 of Upper Sandusky died on Monday Sept. 6, 2010 at 6:30 a.m. at his residence. He was born on Oct. 8, 1931 in Pitt Twp. Wyandot County to the late Frederick and Stella (Rall) McCarthy. He married D. Natalie (Stephens) on Oct. 10, 1953 and they divorced on May 31, 1978. He then married Alice Shaw (Stansbery) on Dec. 6, 1993 and she survives in Upper Sandusky. Edgar is survived by his children Catherine (Jeffrey) Swavel, Morral, OH, Patrick McCarthy, Fostoria, OH, Claire (Kevin) Russell, Upper Sandusky, Jane (Michael) Starkey, Chandler, AZ, Betsy (Michael) Schoenfeld, Gold River, CA, Stephen McCarthy, San Francisco, CA, Mary Jo (Ray) Williams, Tallmadge, OH, Maggie (Allen) Haley, Fortville, IN, Molly Rose McCarthy, New Mexico, step children Lenny Shaw, Upper Sandusky, Christine (Tony) Boes, Upper Sandusky, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, sisters Rosemary McCarthy, Laguna Woods, CA, Rebecca (Ed) Wiens, Las Vegas, NV, brothers, Thomas (Jo) McCarthy, St. Mary’s , OH and Charles (Sharon) McCarthy, Upper Sandusky, OH. He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1949 and was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War from 1954-1956. Edgar became a mechanic and worked at Crow Motor and Harbour Motor. He also worked on the farm for his brother Charlie. Edgar was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. His hobbies were vegetable and floral gardening. Edgar enjoyed his morning coffee at the Corner Inn and his dog Duke. He was a great mechanic and liked working on lawnmowers and semi trucks. Edgar was considered to be a Jack of all trades. A graveside service will be held at St. Peter Cemetery at a later date with Full Military Rites being conducted by Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard. Visitation will be on Wed. Sept. 8, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. in the Bringman Clark Funeral Home.
