Glen M McDaniel

Glen M. McDaniel, age 84 of Forest died on Friday Jan. 18, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. in the woods close to his residence while cutting firewood. He was born on June 13, 1928 in Jackson Twp. Wyandot Co. to Russell and Mary (Wentz) McDaniel. Glen married Mary Ruth Vogt on July 3, 1951 and she survives in Forest. Mr. McDaniel is survived by a son Donald (Karen) McDaniel, Forest, daughters Beth (Steve) Monnette, Marion, Linda (Zachary) Neds, Boston; MA, four grandchildren Ryan McDaniel, Ryan (Sarah) Rodabaugh, Allison and Andrew Neds, sisters Evelyn Price, Upper Sandusky, Janet McCann, Mayer; AZ, Carol (Charles) Wright, Forest, brothers Eugene (Alice), Marion, Irvin (Maxine), Marysville, Paul (Lois), Findlay. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Allen Wayne and sister Cleta Fry. He was a retired life long Jackson Twp. grain and livestock farmer. Mr. McDaniel had at one time worked at the Gramm Trailer Company as a welder. Glen was a member of Heritage Christian Union Church where he was active in the building of the church and was a past trustee and former Sunday School Superintend. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. McDaniel was a life member of the McVitty VFW Post #1182 and Hancock Co. Chapter No. 172 Korean War Veterans Association. Glen was known as a Mr. Fixit. For hobbies he enjoyed feeding squirrels and birds, traveling and camping in their R.V., riding motorcycles where he had owned six during his life, and spending time with his pet dog Duke. He had a love for nature and found solitude sitting on his special log in the woods. Mr. McDaniel was proud of his family and lived by a simple philosophy with direction and taught by example. A funeral service will be held Wed. Jan. 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Heritage Christian Union Church with Pastor Ken Gray and Pastor Rex Roth officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson Center Cemetery with Full Military Graveside Honors conducted by McVitty VFW Post #1182, American Legion Post #259 both of Forest and AmVets Post #1994 of Kenton. Visitation will be on Tuesday Jan. 22, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at Clark Shields Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Korean War Veterans Assoc.
