Leonard J. Hare

Leonard J. Hare, age 89 of Upper Sandusky died at his residence on Wed. March 14, 2012 at 10:23 a.m. He was born on Oct. 9, 1922 in Wyandot County to Victor J. and Pearl O. (Humes) Hoerr. He married Dorothy L. Beamer on Sept. 26, 1948 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2007. Leonard has four surviving children Michael S. (Grace) Hare, Christine Eaves, Colleen (Howard) Barth all of Upper Sandusky and Richard A. Hare of Caledonia, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Ann Thomas, Marseilles, June Biglin, Decatur, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Jimmie Eaves, brother Ralph Hare and sister Neva Taylor Mr. Hare graduated from Marseilles High School and was of the Methodist Faith. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the 44th Infantry Division Silver Star, Bronze Star, CIB. Leonard had worked for Claycraft Brickyard and was the club manager at the Elks Lodge BPOE #83. He retired from Lee’s Sports Inc; in 1987. He was a member of the V.F.W Post #2842, American Legion Post #225, Wyandot Campers Club, Wyandot Sportsman Club and a life member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #83. For hobbies he enjoyed mowing the lawn, playing cards, goint to the casinos, horse races, bowling, fishing, and mushroom hunting, especially in MI. He loved working in his garden that was admired by many neighbors and friends. Leonard helped start the Pee Wee football league and he loved playing, umpiring and watching sporting events. He was an avid OSU Buckeye fan and was known as a sports fanatic. Mr. Hare had the privilege of traveling to the WWII Memorial at the National Mall, Washington. Most importantly Leonard loved talking and sharing time with family, friends and strangers. A funeral service will be held on Monday March 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Bringman Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Trester. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday March 18, 2012 from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
