Mary K. West, age 85 of Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, OH died at the Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky, OH at 2:45 PM on Sunday Oct. 5, 2008.She was born May 1, 1923 in Findlay, to Joe and Laura (Reicheley) Coats. She married D. Jack West Sr. on August 31, 1947 and he survives in Sycamore, OH. Mrs. West is also survived by two daughters Mrs Jim (Laura Joan) Welter, Pittsburgh, PA and Mrs. Tim ( Jill) Walton, Sycamore, OH. four grandchildren Zachary (Karen) Walton, Miscawaka,IN, Marci Walton, Los Angeles, CA, Avery & Noah Welter, Pittsburgh, PA, three Brothers, Ted & Rex Coats, both of Findlay, OH, Homer "Bus" Coats, Fort Seneca, OH, and special friends Dick and Shyla Peterson Family, Sycamore, OH. She was preceded in death by a son D. Jack West Jr. two sisters, Dorothy Bash, and Eloise Coats and a brother Edwin Coats, who died in infancy. Mary was a graduate of Lima Memorial class of 1945 as a Registered Nurse. Mrs. West's nursing career consisted of working in several hospitals. She retired as the Director of Nursing from Fairhaven Health Care Community after 19 years. During retirement she helped with Wyandot County Hospice as a nurse and also took care of children for 15 years. Mary was a member of the Ohio Nursing Assoc. Her hobbies were, cooking, sewing, knitting, water skiing (until the age of 65), traveling to Oregon, Florida and Hawaii. Her enjoyments in life were work, family and helping others. A Graveside Service will be at 9:30AM on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Benton Ridge Cemetery, Findlay, OH. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the Sycamore United Methodist Church, Sycamore, OH at 11:30AM with Rev. Gary Glasscock officiating. Visitation is from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00PM on Wednesday at the Bringman Clark Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Mohawk Community Library, Wyandot Co. Hospice, or to the Mohawk Historical Society in care of the Bringman Clark Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
