Mary M. Shields

Mary Magdalene Shields, age 88, of 823 Shields Dr. Upper Sandusky, OH died at 1:40 a.m. Wed. Oct. 17, 2007 in the Wyandot Co. Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 25, 1918 in Ashland, KY to the late Rev. W.K. and Georgia (Nipps) Riggs. She was married by her father Rev. W.K. Riggs to Earl E. Shields on Mar. 28, 1937 in Reedsville, OH. Earl preceded her in death on July 7, 1985. She is survived by 2 sons Dan (Pat) Shields, Upper Sandusky, OH, Bruce (Sherry) Shields, Knoxville, TN, a daughter Mrs. Ed (Earlene) Taylor, Port Clinton, OH, 7 grandchildren, Diana Perry, Joan McLaughlin, Jennifer Karg, Koren Treadway, Kristin Shields McKenzie, Ashley Shields Lightly, Brittany Shields, 7 great grandchildren, Jennifer Green, Jason Wendling, Jillian McLaughlin, Jameson McLaughlin, Michaela Wolfe, Brianna Karg, Kayley Treadway, 1 great great grandchild Stetson Wendling, a sister-in-law, Dale Riggs, Coolville, OH and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a son Steven Shields, sisters Virginia Hughes, Opal Mink, Ada Gilmore, Lois Leonard and brothers James Riggs, Ray Riggs and Charles Riggs. Mrs Shields had been a cook at the former Marseilles School, a nurses aide at Wyandot Memorial Hospital and had worked at the Dairy Snack. She was 43 year former member of Marseilles United Methodist Church and was a member of the Mary Circle. She had attended Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening and especially growing violets. Mary liked reading the Bible and The Guide Post. She also enjoyed listening to religious music and collecting Christian sun catchers. A funeral services will be held Mon. Oct. 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bringman-Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Benjamin and Pastor John McCourt officiating. Burial will take place in Chandler Cemetery, Marseilles, OH. Visitation will be held Sun. Oct. 21, 2007 from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Marseilles United Methodist Church, WXML Radio Station and Wyandot Co.
