Vernon E. Wentz

Vernon Eugene Wentz age 82 of Mt. Blanchard, surrounded by his family, died at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay on Sunday March 14, 2010 at 1:45 p.m. He was born on July 30, 1927 in Wyandot County to the late Clarence L. Wentz and Agnes (Jaqueth) Wentz. He married VeraBelle Everhart on April 4, 1948 in McCutchenville Church of Christ and she preceded him in death on Aug. 3, 2003. Mr. Wentz has three surviving daughters Marcia (James) Clay, Forest, Marlene Wentz, Mt. Blanchard, Melissa (Rob) Ellerbrock, Findlay, 8 grandchildren Michael, Shari, Trisha Wentz, Joshua, and Matthew (Elizabeth) Clay, Erin (Scott) Buchanan, Blake Laubacher, Taylor Ellerbrock, 5 great grandchildren Alexis, Grace, Audrey Buchanan, Cameron Nuhfer, Grant Clay, brother Richard Wentz, Mt. Blanchard, sister Jane (Altvater) Vogel, Wharton. He was preceded in death by son Mark Wentz on March 26, 2009. He also was preceded in death by brother Louie Wentz and stepsister Reida Webb. He was a veteran serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II and later re-enlisted in the US army. Mr. Wentz was a life long grain and livestock farmer. He had served as a Delaware Trustee and had also served on the Hancock County ASCS Committee. Mr. Wentz hobbies included the outdoors, his love for animals especially his dog Beau. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his grandchildren. He will be remembered for being a great caretaker for his wife when she became sick. A funeral service will be held on Thursday March 18, 2010 at 11:00a.m. in the CLARK SHIELDS Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Christman officiating. Burial will take place at Wharton Richland Union Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by McVitty VFW Post 1182, American Legion Post 259 both of Forest and AmVets Post 1994 of Kenton.
