Woodrow Snavely

Woodrow (Woody) B. Snavely formerly of W. Walker St., now residing at Essexway, Upper Sandusky, OH died at 4:25AM, Saturday January 3, 2009 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. He was 88. Born January 20, 1920 in Bucyrus, OH, he was the son of the late George Snavely and Myrtle (Yark) Snavely. He married Gertrude (Myers) Snavely on Aug. 27, 1941 in Upper Sandusky and she survives. Mr. Snavely also is survived by two daughters Mrs Robert (Connie J.) Swartz, Upper Sandusky, Mrs Bert (Joy A.) Gault, Forest, OH, two granddaughters Mrs Kevin (Pam) Baker and Mrs. Mark (Amy) Ratliff both of Upper Sandusky, OH, two great grandchildren, Ian Baker and Jordan Ratliff both of Upper Sandusky, two sisters Norrene Kirk, Bucyrus, OH and Dorothy Mellott, Needmore, PA, Mr. Snavely was preceded in death by brother Edward Snavely and sister Florence Lindensmith. He retired from the Wyandot Co. Highway Dept. and had formerly worked for the State of Ohio Highway Dept. Mr. Snavely had worked for the former Daybrook Hydraulic Co. and in his early life he was a farmer. He was a member of the John Stewart United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, OH. Woody was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He was a life member of the Eagles #2184 and a member of the VFW Post #2842. Woody's hobbies included cooking, baking, hunting, woodworking, mechanical work, and watching wrestling on TV. In his earlier days he enjoyed smoking and collecting pipes. He also enjoyed wildlife, Woody's patience and gentle care would tame the wild animals and they would become his pets. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday January 7, 2009 at 2:00PM at the Bringman Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Geissinger officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, OH. Friends may call at the Bringman Clark Funeral Home from 2-4 & 6-8:00PM on Tuesday January 6, 2009. Memorials may be given to the Wyandot Co.
