Earl J "Chubby" Messmer

Earl Junior “Chubby” Messmer, age 82 of Wharton died at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay on Thursday July 11, 2013 at 7:05pm. He was born March 11, 1931 in Wyandot County to the late Walter H. and Sarah A. (Ulrich) Messmer. He married Grace L. Cole on August 18, 1951 and she survives in Wharton. Mr. Messmer is survived by 2 sons Jim Messmer, Wharton, Jack (Pam) Messmer, Forest, 3 daughters Jenny (Leroy) Clark, Wharton, Judy (Grant) Yeater, Carey, Jody (Jim) Bowman, Edison, 13 grandchildren Keith, Kevin, Kasey Messmer, Alissa Farmer, Andrea McDaniel, Kyle Clark, Brandi Miller, Brooke Greathouse, Amy Puckett, Kara Mowery, Andrew Yeater, Conrad and Tiffany Bowman, 17 great grandchildren, Justine, Collin, Kaitlyn Messmer, Taylor, Brenna, Addie Farmer, Evan, Cade McDaniel, Tyler, Hayden, Logan Clark, Trey Greathouse, Bryce, Kalen Puckett, Koen Mowery, Peyton, Kendall Bowman, 2 sisters Jane Thompson, Alice Smith, 2 brothers Bob Messmer, David Messmer, Sister-in-law Connie (Greg) Swartz. He was preceded in death by a grandchild Cory Kiehne, 2 sisters Shirley Uribe, Bernice Kirian, 7 brothers Vernon, Raymond, Paul, Myron, Richard, Francis, Wayne Messmer. Mr. Messmer graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1951. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. His daughter accompanied him June 4, 2013 on the Honor Flight. Mr. Messmer retired from Riverdale Local Schools in 1996 after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Wharton United Methodist Church. Mr. Messmer was a Pony League baseball coach, Cub Scout leader and 4-H member and advisor. He was an avid sports fan of the Riverdale Falcons, Ohio State Buckeyes, Boston Celtics and New York Yankees. He loved camping and spending time with family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 16, 2013 at 10:30am in Wharton United Methodist Church with Pastor Denny Livingston officiating. Burial will follow in Wharton Richland Union Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard. Visitation will be held Monday July 15, 2013 from 2-8pm in BRINGMAN CLARK Funeral Home and a hour prior to the funeral at the church.
