Franklin D. Hemmerly

Franklin D. Hemmerly, age 77 of Upper Sandusky died at 11:10 a.m. on Wed. July 18, 2012 in the Fairhaven Health Care Community. He was born July 14, 1935 in Jackson Twp. to Orville Gerald and Martha Marie Gwinner - Schoenberger Hemmerly. He married Alice Miller and they later divorced. Mr. Hemmerly then married Sandra Zimmerman Lopez on Aug. 2, 1985 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church and she survives in Upper Sandusky. He has three sons surviving Robert (Jennifer) Hemmerly, Springfield, David (Camella) Hemmerly, Kenton, Timothy (Dawn) Hemmerly, Forest, a daughter Christine (Roger) Wagner, Bluffton, a step-son Timothy (Robin) Lopez, Parma, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren, a sister Ruby Buckingham, New Smyrna Beach;FL. He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. In 1953 Mr. Hemmerly graduated from Forest High School and was a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Hemmerly had been employed by the former Daybrook Hydraulics, Upper Sandusky, the former John Deere Implement Store of Forest, the former Thompson Vending that later became A. VanBrackle & Sons, both of Forest. He also helped farm with Noble and Jeff Fox. Mr. Hemmerly was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee on church council. He was a member of American Legion Post #225 where he was a bartender. Mr. Hemmerly was also a member of the Moose Lodge #1093 and AmVets Post #777. He was an avid bowler and bowled on the Buckeye and American Legion leagues. Mr. Hemmerly was also on the Upper Sandusky Bowling League. For hobbies he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and taking care of his cars. Mr. Hemmerly also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a NASCAR fan especially the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Team. Mr. Hemmerly was proud to serve on the Upper Sandusky Color Guard where he gave of his time serving on the Military Graveside Honor Detail. A funeral service will be held Sat. July 21, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Joe Trester and Jarrod Schaaf officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Center Cemetery, Wyandot County with full Military Rites conducted by Upper Sandusky Color Guard. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday July 20, 2012 at Bringman Clark Funeral Home and an hour before the service on Sat. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
