Nancy A Newman

July 18, 1942 - November 5, 2019

Nancy Ann Newman age 77, of Sterling, Virginia, died on Tues. Nov. 5, 2019 from breast cancer in the Upper Sandusky house where her mother was born and where her husband later lived with his mother and step father. She was born on July 18, 1942, in Bucyrus, to the late Richard W. and Maxine (Cammarn) Niederhauser and graduated from Nevada High School in 1960. Nancy was born a Buckeye and wanted to die a Buckeye. During her sophomore year at the Ohio State University, Columbus, she married Larry B. Newman, formerly of Upper Sandusky, on December 17, 1961, in the Nevada United Methodist Church. During the next 10 years Nancy and Larry lived in 12 different eastern states from Maine to Florida while he was doing topographic surveys for the U.S. Geological Survey. After moving to Sterling, Virginia, in 1971, Nancy resumed her education becoming first a registered nurse and then a nurse practitioner. She earned an associate degree from Northern Virginia Community College, bachelor and masters degrees from George Mason University, and her nurse practitioner degree from Marymount University. She worked in several medical facilities in Virginia, Maryland and D.C. before retiring from Inova Fairfax Hospital. In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter Jenny (Doug) Hall of Pataskala, three grandsons: Alex (Elaine Stingel) Hall of Gahanna, Andy Hall of Orlando, and Greg (Maggie Butcher) Hall of Chicago, a sister Susan (George Denzer) Abbott of Mascotte, Florida, several nieces and nephews, and two loving English Springer Spaniels, Buckeye Blazer and Scarlet Ann Gray. She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mary Niederhauser and Janis Holdcraft. Nancy was an avid OSU Buckeyes football fan and tried to attend a game every year when her son-in-law and later all three grandsons were trombone players in the OSU Marching Band. From 2002, when Nancy became a hunter, through 2018, Larry and their dogs made an annual trip from Virginia to Roy Lake Resort in northeastern South Dakota for pheasant season. Some of her other interests were golf, bowling, walking the dogs, meeting with friends, reading, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of several nursing associations, Pheasants Forever, the Warpole Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and a former member of the Nevada United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Friday Nov. 8, 2019 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Bringman Clark Funeral Home followed by graveside services at 1:15 p.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery where she will be buried adjoining her parents and sister Mary. Rev. Brad McKibben will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to Hospice of Wyandot County or Stefanie Spielman fund for Breast Cancer Research in care of Bringman Clark Funeral Home 226 East Wyandot Ave. Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
