John R Houser

John R. “Jack” Houser age 89 died Friday, January 12, 2018 at Westbrook Assisted Living & Memory Care. He was born January 19, 1928 in Upper Sandusky to the late Bernard F & Thelma (Wall) Houser. He married Edra J. Kuenzli on December 16, 1950 and she died August 15, 1991. He is survived by a son John R. Houser Jr., Upper Sandusky, a daughter Jean A. (Cliff) Orians, Upper Sandusky, 6 grandchildren Dan Houser, Upper Sandusky, Beth Houser, Columbus, Lisa Houser, LA, Mike (Heather) Thiel, IN, Robb Thiel, FL, Carson (Erika) Orians, Upper Sandusky, and 6 great granddaughters. He was was preceded in death by a sister Jean McIntrye. Mr. Houser graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1946 where he was a player on their undefeated football team. During high school, he was 1st Team All-Ohio in football in 1946, and set 4 high school track records. He attended The Ohio State University and played football for 2 years on the Reserve squad, until an injury ended his career. He was a member of Alpha Tao Omega (ATO) Fraternity at The Ohio State University. He was a former manager of City Loan Savings. Mr. Houser attended John Stewart United Methodist Church. Mr. Houser was Exalted Ruler of the Upper Sandusky Elks Lodge in 1956. He was a life member of BPOE #83. He participated in many Elks activities through the years with his friends. In 1959, he co-organized the Elks Golf Classic. He was a lifetime honorary member and past President of the Upper Sandusky Rotary Club, member of Upper Sandusky High School Athletic Hall of Fame, past member of the Masons Warpole Lodge #176 F&AM, and a past member of the Wyandot County Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed spending time family and friends at Ellis Lake, and golfing with his buddies, especially at Lincoln Hills, where he had a hole in one. Mr. Houser served in the Ohio National Guard based out of Bucyrus. The family would like to thank the staff at Westbrook Assisted Living & Memory Care and Hospice of Wyandot County for all their assistance. A funeral will be held Tues. January 16, 2018 at 10:30AM at Bringman Clark Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Arnold officiating. Interment will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation will be held Mon. January 15, 2018 from 5-6:30 PM at Bringman Clark Funeral Home with an Elks Memorial Service at 6:30PM.
