Richard P. Shumaker

Richard P. Shumaker, 80 of Upper Sandusky died at Fairhaven Health Care Community on Sat. Mar. 19, 2011. He was born Feb. 17, 1931 in Upper Sandusky to the late Anthony P. & Dorothy R. (Finkle) Shumaker. Mr. Shumaker married Betty J. Morris on April 19, 1952, and she survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Darlene Shumaker, Karen (David) Powell, both of Upper Sandusky, Connie (Mike) Brady, Nevada, two sons, Richard A. (Theresa) Shumaker, and John Shumaker, both of Upper Sandusky, 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren, four sisters, Patricia Berg, Dody (William) Rowe, Dorothy (Allen) Dible all of Upper Sandusky, and Rachel (Denny) Rall, Crestline. He was preceded in death by a great grandchild, two brothers, James & William Shumaker and one sister, Sara Bader. He graduated from the former Salem High School in 1949 and played on the Salem Cornhuskers basketball team that made it to the regional finals. Mr. Shumaker was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a Crane Twp. grain & livestock farmer, he had also worked at Timken, Bucyrus, and was the owner/operator of Dick’s Mopeds. Mr. Shumaker was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky. He was a Life Member of the Amvets Post 777, American Legion Post 225, and K of C Council 2050. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post 225, and Past Governor of the Moose Lodge 1093. He was a member of the Indian Mill Antique Tractor Assoc. He enjoyed farming, OSU and all Cleveland sports, NASCAR, traveling to antique tractor shows and auctions, collecting antique Farmall tractors, and spending time with his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed. Mar. 23, 2011 at 10:30AM in the St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky, with Father Robert Dendinger officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by Upper Sandusky Veterans Color Guard. Visitation will be held at the Bringman Clark Funeral Home on Tues. Mar. 22, 2011 from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00PM with a 2:00PM Catholic Prayer Service.
