S. Elsie Brewer

S. Elsie Brewer, age 93 formerly of Marseilles and of Upper Sandusky died at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital on Sat. Dec. 17, 2011 at 12:35 p.m. She was born on Jan. 29, 1918 in Marseilles to Leslie Thomas and Lois Buckingham Thomas. She married Lester L. Brewer on Aug. 17, 1936 in Marseilles and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1985. She is survived by a brother Earl his wife Arkada Thomas of Kenton, two sisters in laws Helen Gottfried, Mary Pever both of Upper Sandusky, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Carl and Ralph Thomas and two sisters Anna May Johnson and Nina Shumate. Elsie was a 1935 graduate of Marseilles high school. She worked hard all of her life. Elsie was a truck driver for the Railway Express during WWII, then drove military staff car at Fort Benning G.A. during the war. She worked 18 years at the restaurant tavern in Marseilles. Elsie was a Homemaker and Avon Representative. For the past 21 years she served as a director on the Board at the Wyandot County council of Aging. In 1989 she was voted Wyandot County outstanding Senior Citizen. Elsie enjoyed spending time at the Council of Aging, making crafts and playing cards. In life she enjoyed music especially playing the piano for round & square dances. She was a life member of the Marseilles Volunteer Fire Dept. auxiliary, member of the VFW Post #2842 of Upper Sandusky, Eagles and Moose lodges at Indian Lake. She and her late husband were very involved at BPOE #83 of Upper Sandusky. A funeral service will be held Wed. 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the BRINGMAN CLARK Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at Chandler Cemetery, Marseilles. Visitation will be on Tues. Dec. 20, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
