William J. (Bill) Vaughn

William Joseph (Bill) Vaughn, age 81, of Walker St. Upper Sandusky died at his residence on Wed. July 16, 2008 at 5:35 p.m. He was born near Carey, OH on October 25, 1926. Bill was the son of the late William Allen and Cecelia M. (Sontag) Vaughn. He married Margery Thiel who preceded him in death on November 20, 1998. They were married on September 17, 1949 in St. Peter's Catholic Church. He is survived by three daughters Jeanne (Bill) Coppler and Karen (Kip) Binau of Carey and Nancy (Chip) Hill of Upper Sandusky and two sons, Thomas (Becky) and Dennis (Maria) of Upper Sandusky. He is survived by sixteen grandchildren, Shane Coppler, Latanya Modd, Tiffany Mitch, Natalie Strasser, Wade Vaughn, Jason, Joshua, Ashley and Brittany Hill, Jacob, Nicholas, Deanna, and Jordan Vaughn, and Cory, Craig, and Kerri Binau and eight great grandchildren, Carley, Olivia, and Vaughn Coppler, Shelby and Mason Modd, and Emily, Evan, and Ethan Hill. Bill is also survived by a sister, Mary Louise (Howard) Fleece of Carey, and a brother, Richard (Pat) Vaughn of New Riegel and a sister-in-law, Katie (Richard) Thiel and a brother-in-law, Paul (Ruthie) Thiel of Upper Sandusky. Preceding him in death were brothers, Michael (Sally) and Leo (Delores) Vaughn of Carey and a sister, Evelyn (Joe) Myers of Toledo. Mr. Vaughn graduated from Carey High School with the class of 1944. He worked for over forty-three years in the grain elevator business. He went to work for the Old Farm Bureau Co-op. in Carey as the ice man in 1945. He later worked for the U. S.Commission Company where he was branch manager in Carey. He later became general manager in Upper Sandusky in 1981. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church and active on the church and school committees. He sang in the church choir for 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge #2050 where he was past grand knight and Stone Crossing Golf Club, Upper Sandusky. He was also a past member of American Legion Post No. 225 and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #83, Upper Sandusky. In the late 1940's, he was an advisor of the Carey Boys 4-H. Mr. Vaughn enjoyed and loved his family and friends. He also had many friends at the Crawford County Dialysis Center in Bucyrus. His hobbies included wine making, gardening, genealogy, playing dominoes, studying history, especially Wyandot County and WWII. Most recently, he enjoyed spending time at his pond (Wilmar) and cabin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday July 21, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at The Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday July 20, 2008 from 1-6:00 p.m. at the Bringman Clark Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:00p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic School, Upper Sandusky and Our Lady of Consolation School, Carey, OH in care of Bringman Clark Funeral Home 226 E.
